Hastings resident Mary A. Schroeder, 93, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.  

 

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil with Pastor Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with family present Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Mary was born on February 20, 1930, to Henry B. and Wilma (Hoppens) Valentin. She was born on the family farm and was one of four children including a sister, Burdette, and brothers, Darold and Ivan.

 

Mary attended District #40 through the eighth grade. She then stayed at home to help her father, Henry, along with her older sister, Burdette, to care for her ailing mother and work the family farm. At 19 years of age, she married Kenneth “Bud” Anders on February 20, 1949. Bud and Mary had three children together, LaDonna Jean, Bruce Neil, and Brian Scott. Bud died unexpectedly on May 17, 1960. Later, on June 2, 1962, Mary was married to Duane Eugene Schroeder; who preceded her in death on December 9, 2008.

 

Mary was active her entire life in her church at St. Paul’s Lutheran of Glenvil, NE. Mary worked as a retail clerk at JCPenneys for ten years, followed by working as a chiropractic assistant at Sutcliffe Chiropractic until her retirement at age 70. Mary volunteered after her retirement, at The Children’s Ark as a grandparent helper.

 

Mary was survived by her children, LaDonna (Anders) Rader of Hastings, NE, and Bruce Anders and spouse Jeanie (Skalka) Anders of Doniphan, NE; daughter-in-law, Marla (Daugherty) Anders-Orcutt and spouse Tim Orcutt of Doniphan, NE; sister-in-law, Eileen Valentin of Hastings, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Mary was also survived by and was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren; Kimberly (Rader) Krueger and spouse Seth Krueger of Hastings, NE, Krystal (Rader) Hrbek and spouse Tim Hrbek Sr. of Queen Creek, AZ, Megan (Anders) Reininger and spouse Mark Reininger of Lincoln, NE, Charles Anders, and spouse Marivonne Oti-Henderson of Houston, TX, Brent Anders and spouse Alicia (Speltz) Anders of Eyota, MN, Nicholas Anders of Houston, TX, and Alyssa Anders of Hastings, NE.  

 

Mary was also proud of her 13 great-grandchildren; Tim Hrbek Jr. of Omaha, NE, Brittney (Hrbek) and spouse Josh Darroch of Maricopa, AZ, Mattison, Jonah, and Kason Hrbek of Queen Creek, AZ, Gabrielle and Grady Krueger of Hastings, NE, and Hannah and Kyria Anders of Eyota, MN, and Jaylen, Mikaela and Liam Anders of Houston, TX.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Wilma Valentin; in-laws, Charles & Matilda Anders and Louis & Laura Schroeder; brothers, Darold and Ivan Valentin; sister and spouse, Burdette & Vern Konzak; husbands, Kenneth “Bud” Anders and Duane Schroeder; son-in-law, Roger Rader; and son, Brian Anders.
