Merlin D. Gentert

Hastings resident Merlin D. “Shorty” Gentert, 90, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at his home. 

There will be no services held. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. 

Shorty was born November 1, 1934, in Holstein, NE to Leslie and Emma (Einspahr) Gentert. He graduated from Holstein High School and Milford Trade School. Shorty served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Shorty was a self-employed auto mechanic. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, making cars go fast, building engines, dirt track racing, and watching Nebraska football, basketball, and volleyball. 

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Elton and Roland Gentert.
