Michael C. "Mike" Behmer

Hastings resident Michael C. “Mike” Behmer, 71, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Grand Island Lakeview Care and Rehabilitation Center, Grand Island, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk, NE with Father Patrick McLaughlin. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Parish Schools Endowment.

Mike grew up on a Northeast Nebraska farm and attended school in Hoskins NE. He loved dogs and was always outside playing. He worked at Dale Electronics in Norfolk before moving to Hastings. Mike worked at the Hastings landfill for over 10 years.

Mike enjoyed sports, especially football. He was an avid Nebraska football, Green Bay Packers, and Kansas City Chiefs fan. You would often find Mike wearing a football jersey that supported his teams. One of his highlights was attending the 1995 Fiesta Bowl. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed shooting hoops at the YMCA.

He was also an avid golf ball collector, collecting over 30,000 golf balls.

Mike loved a good Prime Rib and ice cream. He was also fond of cheeseburgers, Dr Pepper, and Dorothy Lynch. He enjoyed singing Karaoke and listening to music, especially CCR tunes. He had fun visiting his siblings and enjoyed meeting their friends. Mike was a prolific letter writer and could make a mean mix tape of his favorite songs.

Despite his limitations, Mike lived a full independent life for many years. He left a lasting impression on those he touched.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
