Hastings resident Mildred Eileen “Millie” Fuglemsmo, 86, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at CHI Health St. Francis, Grand Island, NE.
Millie was born February 12, 1939, at Burchard, NE to Frank and Frances Janko. She grew up in Pawnee County and attended several rural schools before graduating from Table Rock High in 1957. Millie graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce. Millie began her career at Community Blue Stamps, where she worked for 30 years, retiring as Office Manager.
Millie married her first husband, Robert Dickson and together they had one daughter, Dawna. In 1991 she met Einar Fuglemsmo and later they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas where they married. Although Einar passed away in 1998, Millie stayed in Bella Vista and was very active in her church. In 2019 she decided to move back to Nebraska to be near family.
She first lived at Good Samaritan Village in Hastings and later moved to The Kensington, where she made many friends and enjoyed her time there. Following several falls, she moved to Tiffany Square in Grand Island.
Millie lived a full and vibrant life. She enjoyed painting, knitting, fishing, and bowling. She was also an avid dulcimer player, sharing her music at many nursing homes in Arkansas. Millie was a life member of VFW Post #3106 Auxiliary in Lincoln, where she served as District President, and she also ministered as a Chaplain at the Bentonville County Jail in Arkansas. She was a proud member of the South-Central Nebraska Czech Society.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Einar, her parents; sister, Vlasta Butler; and brothers, George, Jerry, and infant Milo Janko.
