Milton Woods

October 29, 1926 — July 7, 1963

Ayr resident, Milton Arthur Woods, 79, of 3940 West Depot Avenue, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Perkins Pavilion, four days after leaving Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 14, 2006; 3:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska. Private family burial at a later date.

Mr. Woods was born October 29, 1926 in Greene County, Iowa to Dora (Monthei) & Hugh Woods. He moved to Sutton, Nebraska with his family at an early age and graduated from Sutton High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army from March 1955 to March 1957. After his discharge, he was employed at the Sutton Post Office. On July 7, 1963, he married Virginia Ann Gilmore at the Federated Church in Sutton, Nebraska. They lived in Sutton until he was transferred to the Hastings Post Office. In 1976, they move to Ayr, Nebraska. After retiring from the Hastings Post Office in 1983, he attended Central Community College in Hastings and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in 1988. He became a computer instructor for Central Community College, teaching adult night classes. He later worked as a computer instructor at the Hastings Correctional Center Education Department from 1996-2000. He was a member of the Sutton Federated Church where he was a Youth League leader during the 1960's. He received a 50 year membership certificate on November 5, 2000. He was a former member of the Sutton Lions Club. He belonged to the Hastings Amateur Radio Club, Quarter Century Wireless Association and was a lifetime membership in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vivian Stromer of Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

Memorial may be given to Mary Lanning Health Care Foundation or Adams County Handi-Bus Public Transportation Services
