Murray "Dean" Meyer

Hastings resident Murray “Dean” Meyer, 94, passed away on February 16, 2024, at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home, Kearney, NE.   

 

Services honoring both Dean and Verna will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with Rev. Greg Allen-Pickett officiating. Burial with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Muscular Dystrophy Youth Camp or Campbell American Legion #169. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Dean was born on April 18, 1929, to Herman & Florence (Koch) Meyer in Campbell, NE. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1946. Murray served in the US Army and was a medic in the Korean War. Dean received a Combat Medical Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He survived the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. He married Verna Hemberger on January 30, 1954, in Red Cloud, NE. Verna passed away on September 28, 2022.

 

Dean and Verna owned and operated Dean’s Painting Service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, VFW, and Campbell American Legion #169.

 

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna; brothers, Doyt Meyer, Marvin Meyer, Leon Meyer, Ivan “Pete” Meyer; son-in-law, Tony Hernandez; and infant grandson, John Meyer.
