Hastings resident, Ona Short, 93, of 137 Lakeside Drive, died Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Sunday, November 18, 2007; 2:00 P.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be Monday, November 19, 2007; 9:00 A.M. in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Family & friends may meet at Butler-Volland Funeral Home prior to graveside service. Visitation will be Saturday, November 17, 2007; 9AM-9PM & Sunday, November 18, 2007; 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Donor's Choice.

Mrs. Short was born March 1, 1914 in Hastings, Nebraska to Jacob & Alice (Rutt) Thiel. She attended Hastings High School and married Arthur Beachler. He preceded her in death in 1944. On January 1, 1953, she married David V. Short and he preceded her in death in 1966. She worked at Swift and did clerical work for Naval Ammunition Depot, the Nebraska Funeral Director's Association and Catholic Charities. She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lutheran World Relief Project Group and American Historical Society of Germans of Russia. She was a caregiver for several elderly family members and a passionate fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and of Tiger Woods.

Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Arthur Beachler & David Short and two brothers, Ray & Jack Thiel.

Survivors include:
Step Son & Spouse : Roger & Norma Short of San Diego, CA
Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and other relatives.
