Phyllis (Luth) Howard

Hastings resident Phyllis (Luth) Howard, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the family. 

Phyllis was born on July 29, 1941, in Mitchell, SD, she was the beloved daughter of Wilbur and Doratha (McCumber) Luth. She graduated from Spearfish High School and went on to dedicate many years of service at Allen's Department Store, where she worked until her retirement in 2015. Known for her strong work ethic and kind heart, she left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.

Outside of work, Phyllis had a deep love for the outdoors. An avid skier, she found joy and tranquility at her ski-in ski-out condo at Terry Peak near Rapid City, SD — a place that brought her countless cherished memories. She also had a green thumb and could often be found tending to her garden and loved flamingos.

Phyllis will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, warm presence, and the joy she brought to those around her. She is deeply missed.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Royce Luth, Harry (Carolyn) Luth, Chuck Luth, and Billy Luth; sisters, LaRue Halverson and Sandra Craft; aunt and uncle, Phyllis & Aide Schlant.
