The family of Richard W. “Dick” Klamm, 93, of Hastings, Nebraska, formerly of Holdrege, NE, is saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, December 14 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, NE.

Dick was born on July 18, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas, and was the youngest of three children born to George and Bessie (Storey) Klamm. Shortly after graduating from Washington High School in Kansas City, he married his childhood sweetheart Beverly Turner in 1953. Together, the couple welcomed four children.

Dick was drafted during the Korean War and served honorably in the Air Force as a communication specialist. This specialized role paved the way for a long and successful career with Platte Pipeline (later bought by Marathon Oil Company.) With this company, he was located in Holdrege, NE in 1958, where he resided until 2023 when they moved to Hastings, NE to be closer to family. Outside of his professional life, Dick was a talented woodworker and maintained a lifelong passion and great love of music. After the passing of his first wife, Dick found love again and married Arlene (Saunders) Smee.

Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly; his parents, George and Bessie Klamm; his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Klamm; and his sister and brother-in-law, Edna Mae and Bob Canavan;

He is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene of Hastings, NE, and his four children: Rick Klamm and his wife, Linda of Hastings, NE; Kristi Condy and her husband, Rick of Grand Island, NE; Karen Brewster and her husband, Jim of Knoxville, TN; and Roger Klamm of Waukee, IA. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Ray Smee and his wife, Millie of Hill City, KS; Curtis Smee of Baltimore, MD; Diane Peterson of Holdrege, NE; and Bill Smee of Ada, OK.

Dick’s legacy is carried on by his grandchildren, Beth (David) Edmonds of Greenback TN; Lyndsay (Wes) Harris of Grand Island, NE; Bob (Billie) Condy of Grand Island, NE; Courtney Klamm of Omaha, NE; Ian (Jackie) Fitz of Denver, CO, Kacy Clabough of Maryville, TN as well as his great-grandchildren, Fallon Condy, Addisyn, Riley, and Harper Edmonds, Charlee, Kaylee, and Kellan Condy. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Dick’s wishes were to be cremated. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
