Robb was born April 20, 1965, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Joel and Karen (Peterson) Samuelson. The youngest of four, he was a rascal from the beginning- ornery in the most lovable way. Robb graduated from Trumbull High School in 1983. On September 2, 1989, Robb married his wife of 36 years, Lori Saathoff, and together raised three children: Samantha, Reid, and Josie. As parents they instilled a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.
As a lifelong resident of Trumbull, farming wasn’t just a career for Robb, but his way of life. He was a true steward of the land, honoring God through his work each season. Robb loved country life, and felt most at home outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting on his land, fishing off the creek bridge, shooting his guns, and going on hunting trips with friends. He was a familiar face for morning coffee at the Sugar Shack in Trumbull, and could often be found cruising in his Jeep. Robb knew everyone and their dog, and was sure to have a joke or a funny story ready to tell. He truly “never met a stranger,” and made connections wherever he went. He had an incredible memory for people and families, and could recall about anyone’s family lineage. Everyone has a “Robb story,” each one usually followed by laughter.
Above all else, Robb cherished time with his family. In recent years he delighted in time with his grandkids, John and June. Hosting friends and family in his “man cave” was another favorite pastime for Robb, where he had an open-door policy, and anyone was welcome to stop by for a cold beer after a long day. Robb had the best-sounding laugh, and a heart to match. He was a “buddy” to many, and was quick to help someone in need. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of life, and the way he made the world feel a bit more connected.
Robb was preceded in death by his grandparents; Evelyn and Ivor Samuelson; Richard and Ruth Peterson, and his mother-in-law, Marian Saathoff.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Samuelson of Trumbull; children, Samantha (DJ) Pfeiffer of Trumbull, Reid Samuelson of Trumbull, and Josie (Justin) Svoboda of David City; grandchildren, John and June Pfeiffer; parents, Joel and Karen Samuelson of Trumbull; siblings, Kevin (Rochelle) Samuelson of Bennington, Gretchen (Kevin) Beck of Trumbull, and Eric (Julie) Samuelson of Trumbull; along with many friends who became family.
