Hastings resident Robert L. Allen, 90, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Josh Davis officiating. The family requests casual attire be worn to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Blue Valley Cemetery or Golden Friendship Center. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Robert was born on September 12, 1935, to Newell & Elsie (Doyen) Allen in Hastings, Nebraska. He lived in Hastings his entire life, except for a few years in Glenvil. He graduated from Glenvil High School in 1953 in a class of 5 students. He married Betty J. Streck in Hastings. To this union two daughters were born, Peggy and Teresa. Betty preceded him in death in 2009.
Robert was enlisted in the United States Army and served during the German occupation. He was honorably discharged from the Army and served in the Army Reserves. He then attended and graduated from the Nebraska State Trade School in Milford, NE in 1958. Robert worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads for over 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was named manager of the year in 1996. In his retirement, he enjoyed taking care of his lawn, attending Golden Friendship Center, and TV Westerns and NCIS. He also enjoyed joking with his grandkids.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for many years where he was an usher and an elder. Later, he and Betty joined Grace United Methodist Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
