Rodney was born on April 18, 1949, to Rupert and Leona (Hammer) Scott in Eugene, OR. He attended school in Holstein, NE, and graduated from Holstein High School in 1967. In May of 1969, Rodney enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1971.

After his military service, he married Peggy L. Swanson on November 13, 1971. They raised a son, Shawn, and a daughter, Debra. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad from May 1971-February 2002. During his tenure, he held various positions.

Rodney enjoyed his family, spending time outdoors, woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping. During his younger years, you could find him and his family at a campsite playing cards, where the kids never cheated! In his retirement years, he loved spending time with his wife attending their grandchildren's events, and playing cards with anyone who would play with him. His grandchildren will remember and cherish the storytelling of his youth and especially his time playing sports.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dallas Scott; parents-in-law, Clao and Alvina Swanson; and nephew, Michael Swanson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Peggy Scott, Kenesaw, NE; son, Shawn (Caryn) Scott, Hastings, NE; daughter, Debra Wendt (Michael Lincoln), Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Caitlyn Scott, Lauryn Scott, Megyn Scott, and Taryn Scott all of Hastings, NE, Nathan (Melanie) Wendt, Ames, IA, Caleb (Madison) Wendt, Clovis, NM, and Courtney Wendt, Omaha, NE; sister, Deanna (Bob) Portz, Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law, Byron (Fernetta) Swanson, Campbell, NE, Gary (Joyce) Swanson, Beatrice, NE, and Bob (Mary) Swanson, Lincoln, NE; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members.
