In May of 1969, Rodney enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1971.

Rodney enjoyed his family, spending time outdoors, woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping. During his younger years, you could find him and his family at a campsite playing cards, where the kids never cheated! In his retirement years, he loved spending time with his wife attending their grandchildren's events, and playing cards with anyone who would play with him. His grandchildren will remember and cherish the storytelling of his youth and especially his time playing sports.
