Hastings resident Saralee Jean “Susie” (Schlagenhauff) Moffatt, 92, passed quietly into Heaven from her home January 29, 2025.
A Memorial Service will be at 10 A.M. Tuesday, May 27, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 27, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Susie was born August 6, 1932, in Missouri Valley, IA to Otto P. and Adeline E. (Pike) Schlagenhauff. The family relocated to Hastings in 1941. She was confirmed at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, attended Alcott Elementary, Hastings Junior High, and graduated from Hastings Senior High in 1950. Following graduation Susie attended nursing school. Susie married Jerald L. “Jerry” Moffatt on November 25, 1951. Their union was blessed for 49 years and with two daughters, Pamela and Barbara.
Susie was funny, caring, and she enjoyed people and pets, homemaking, working, golf, sewing and quilting, travel, a variety of hobbies, and Husker football. She maintained membership in the Order of Eastern Star and also participated in several groups and clubs over the years. Stephen Ministry and Contemporary Worship Committee at church were a couple favorites.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; half-sisters, Phyllis and Ardath; half-brother, Richard; brothers, Conrad and George; and her husband, Jerry.
She is survived by daughters, Pamela (Steve) Leonard of Chadron, NE and Barbara Moffatt of Hastings, NE; granddaughters, Jennifer Christen of Omaha, NE and Amy (Mike) Woodward of Oswestry, UK; great-granddaughters, Penny and Ellie Woodward; and nieces and nephews, Brenda (Ken) Hollst, Susan Rue, Scott Schlagenhauff, Cheryl (Thad) Ware, Becky Spencer, and George Schlagenhauff Jr.
