Sharon K. Petersen

Hastings resident Sharon K. Petersen, 83, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, surrounded by all her children.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Book signing will be from 1-7 p.m., with family present 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Sharon was born Jan 10, 1943, in Blue Hill, NE to Gilbert and Lavonia (Bachman) Kort. She graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1960, and her first job was bookkeeper for a local grocery store in Hastings, NE. She married Bill Petersen on November 5, 1961, and they had four children Bonnie, Rita, Mitzi, and Mitch.

Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest happiness in her family. She spent many years as a Tupperware sales representative, sorting corn at Starr Seed Company, and helping Bill at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 592. Sharon was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, where she served for many years as a preschool Sunday School teacher and was an active member of the Pricilla Circle. She loved reading, puzzles, taking photographs, and supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their school activities and sporting events.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sisters-in-law, Linda Kort, Diane Koos, and Diane Petersen; brothers-in-law, Gary Reiber and Don Koos.

Survivors include daughter, Bonnie (Bryon) Meyer of Hastings and their children Brandon (Shayna) Meyer of Davey, NE, and their kids Macy, Wyatt, Jackson, Brooklyn & Bailey, and Brittany (Landon) Epp of Ayr, NE, and their child Sawyer; daughter, Rita (Doyle) Bankson of Hastings and their children Ashley (Michael) Burton of Gretna & Zach Bankson of Aurora, CO; daughter, Mitzi (Jeff) Johnson of Omaha and their child Amelia; son, Mitch (Andrea) Petersen of Melbourne, FL; sisters, Shirley (Ron) Hesselschwerdt of Little Rock, AR and Betty Reiber of Hastings; brother, Byron (Patricia) Kort of Jacksonville, FL.; brother-in-laws, Jerry Petersen of Omaha and Jay Petersen of Kearney.
