Shawn L. Hansen

Hastings resident Shawn L. Hansen, 58, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings, Nebraska, with Pastor Matt Sass officiating. Burial will be at Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with family present at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the Hastings Rural Fire Department. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Shawn was born March 26, 1968, to Kenneth & Lois (Neal) Hansen in Hastings, Nebraska. Shawn grew up in Ayr, Nebraska with two siblings. He graduated from Roseland High School in 1987.

Shawn worked for Thermo King for almost 30 years. Following in his dad’s footsteps, he was a long-time member of the Hastings Rural Fire Department. He served for 30 years on the department. Shawn also worked at MPH part time on their rescue team.

Shawn was always very kindhearted and was always willing to help others. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was like a kid himself and was always right beside them playing and having fun. Shawn was also an animal lover. He loved the animals owned by his family, but he was also the one who would feed a stray animal or even a black squirrel that lived outside his apartment.

Shawn is survived by his siblings & sister-in-law, Robert & Mary Hansen and Melia Hansen Hesse and nieces and nephews, Melody & Donny Exline, Melissa & Skip Howard, Jason Stanley, Jeremy & Tatum Hansen and Josh Hansen and twelve great-nieces and nephews, and other extended family.

Shawn was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
