Susan Jo Smith

Bellevue resident Susan Jo Smith, 65, passed away Monday, November 2, 2026, at her home.

There will be a private burial at Presbyterian Cemetery in Campbell, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Susan was born on July 15, 1961, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Harry “Hap” and Ruth (Harms) Appelget. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1979. On March 22, 1986, she married Charles “Kurt” Smith in Hastings. Susan devoted many years to being a stay-at home mama, teaching young children in her church and later even teaching at a small academy. She was also proud of her role as a military wife and mother, supporting her family through the many experiences that came with military life. She cherished her family and the life they shared together. Above all, Susan's faith was an important part of who she was, as she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ dearly.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents; son, Aaron Smith; half-brothers, K. Appelget and Billy Harms; and half-sisters, Emy Ross and Diane Appelget. 

Susan is survived by her husband, Kurt; children & spouses, Kurt & Wonhyong Smith, Heather Smith, and Shannon & Katlyn Cutright.
