Theora Winter

November 7, 1914 — August 13, 1947

Hastings resident, Theora Rosalyn Winter, 90, of 1217 E. 3rd St., died Monday, March 7, 2005 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Burial will be Thursday, March 10, 2005; 11:00 A.M. in the Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska. Memorial service will be Thursday, March 10, 2005; 4:00 P.M. at the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd with Rev. John Lee Ross officiating.

Mrs. Winter was born November 7, 1914 in rural Spring Valley, Minnesota to Ernest & Editha (Laging) Drewes. She was baptized on December 13, 1914 in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Spring Valley, Minnesota. She was confirmed at the same church on May 12, 1929. She received her education in Minnesota at Fillmore County District 116 elementary school and graduated Spring Valley High School and from Winona State Teachers College. For thirteen years, she taught in rural schools in Minnesota, then for two years at St. John Lutheran School at Boyden, Iowa. On August 13, 1947, she married Louis John Winter in Lae, Papua New Guinea. After 22 years of serving with her husband on the New Guinea Mission Field of the American Lutheran Church, they and their five children returned to the United States, from Madang, Papua New Guinea to Hastings, Nebraska in 1969. She was employed by Good Samaritan Village. She was a homemaker and a member of Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, Church Women United and Martha Circle. She leaves to mourn, her husband and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, she will be missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Winter was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial may be given to Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd Building Fund
