Vernabeth Albers of Hastings Nebraska, a caring mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 85 with family by her side.
Graveside Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, October 13, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. with the family present Sunday, October 12, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family.
Born on November 17, 1939, in Hastings, NE to John and Winona Scheideman, Vernabeth attended Hastings Senior High and later pursued her passion for music at Hastings College. Aside from being a dedicated student, she participated in various activities and was a member of Job’s Daughters.
After knowing one another for a number of years Vernabeth married her husband of 48 years, Eldon Albers, on June 23, 1972. The couple decided to elope and were married in Las Vegas, NV at the Little Brown Chapel. The two spent many wonderful years together making memories with their daughters and grandchildren.
Vernabeth had a career spanning over 40 years. As a small business owner, she cleaned houses for many people and owned and operated Danceworks School of Dance while assisting with her husband’s local automotive repair shop, Eldon’s Incorporated. Vernabeth offered piano and organ lessons for many years and was an organist and pianist for several churches throughout her years as a musician. In all roles, she ensured everything she was involved in was handled with excellence. Aside from the arts, one of her greatest passions was traveling. Vernabeth and her husband Eldon enjoyed numerous adventures. From journeys as a couple to memories with their daughters and, later, grandchildren, Vernabeth and Eldon made sure every trip was memorable.
She found joy in her personal passions; practicing hymns, caring for her pets, and her lifelong dedication to dance lessons, which she enthusiastically participated in up until the age of 75. However, her greatest fulfillment came from the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She taught the importance of diligence, resilience, and finding quiet beauty in everyday life.
Vernabeth was an incredible woman who has left behind an incredible legacy. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Tricia Weseman of Hastings, DeEtta (Lance) Conklin of Hastings, and Kathleen (Chris) Smolik of Fort Stewart, GA; grandchildren, Andrew Conklin, Kierstin Conklin, Tyler Weseman and Lizabeth Weseman; as well as many other relatives.
Vernabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eldon Albers; parents, John and Winona Crawford Scheideman; and son-in-law, Kurt Weseman.
