Hastings resident Wayne I. Hueske, 91, died Monday, March 4, 2024, at The Village Assisted Living-Good Samaritan, Hastings, NE. Wayne had been living at The Villa for the past two years, where he received loving care and was treated like family.    

 

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. The family is requesting casual attire be worn to the services. Burial with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Wayne was born July 15, 1932, on a farm to Anna and Edwin Hueske in rural Adams County, NE. He was the second child in a family of two. Wayne attended first and second grade at District 57 Adams County and third through ninth grade at Doniphan Public Schools. He attended Hastings High School from 10th through 12th grade and graduated in 1950. 

 

On October 12, 1952, he married his classmate, roller-skating partner, and high school sweetheart, Hazel Uhrmacher, at the First St. Paul’s Church. He was blessed with four children: Gary (Gayle) Hueske of Kenesaw, NE; Gregg (Georgina) Hueske of Hastings, NE; Gale Hueske of The Villages, FL; and Karen (Steve) Woods of Los Osos, CA.

 

As the family grew, Wayne was blessed with nine grandchildren: Scott (Nancy) Hueske of Cleburne, TX; Travis Hueske of Grand Island, NE; Jeff Hueske of Dallas, TX; Dominik (Stephanie) Woods of San Rafael, CA; Kameron (Justise) Woods of Orcutt, CA; Grayce Hueske of Atlanta, GA; Gilliyan Hueske of Hastings, NE; Bryan (Theresa) Robinson of St. Paul, NE and Mike (Rosa) Robinson of Lexington, NE; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

 

Wayne was a member of the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. In his younger days, he enjoyed water skiing at Hastings Lake. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was often busy helping his children with lots of projects. 

 

Wayne served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 as a Sergeant 1st Class in the 5th Armored Division. Wayne was part of Nebraska’s honor flights of the Korean War veterans to Washington D.C. to tour their memorials. 

 

After serving in the Korean War, Wayne worked for Dutton-Lainson and Layne & Bowler Pump Co. before his career of 39 years as an electrician. He started his electrician career at ABC Electric of Hastings before joining IBEW Local 265 where worked on eight Powerhouse plants, numerous schools, general motors plants, and water treatment plants. 

 

Wayne is survived by his four children; nine grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law, Lucy Watts, Sharon Groenewold, and Jane Hueske.
