Wayne August Katzberg

Hastings resident Wayne August Katzberg, 92, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at College View Assisted Living, Hastings, NE.

Graveside Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 18, with military honors by the Hastings Military Honor Guard at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to College View Memory Care Unit. 

Wayne was born September 13, 1932, to August and Minnie (Kaiser) Katzberg in Hastings, NE. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1950. Wayne served in the United States Navy from February1, 1951 to January 6, 1955. He married Helen Martin on July 18, 1953. Wayne worked for Weyerhaeuser Company for 25 years then worked for the State Department of Roads for over 25 years until he retired. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Wayne enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. He helped his father-in-law build his home and build other homes on the side. Wayne made a rocking horse, circus toy box, and cradles for his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and playing softball. Wayne loved his family and enjoyed helping whenever he could, especially mowing and helping in the kitchen.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Mike Stroyek; great-grandson, Ben Diecker, three brothers; and one sister.
