Wayne E. Kloppenborg

Hastings resident Wayne E. Kloppenborg, 84, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.   

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 22, at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Pastor Lance Clay officiating. Burial will be at Inland Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 21 at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Wayne was born on April 21, 1939, to Anton & Grace (Stromer) Kloppenborg in Hastings, Nebraska. For a few years, his family moved to Washington, Kansas for Anton’s work. He graduated from Hastings High in 1957. Wayne served in the United States Army from 1962 – 1964. He married Kay Hartzell on March 16, 1963.

While raising their family, Wayne worked in sales at various locations in Hastings. He retired from Whelan Energy Center in 2001. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Wayne enjoyed helping with the children's services at church. Wayne loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin Kloppenborg; and sister-in-law, Marcia.
