Carol Mattes

Hastings resident Carol Lee Mattes, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.

Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1832 West 9th Street, Hastings, NE with Pastor Kent Rogers officiating. A light lunch will follow. There will be no burial. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.

Carol was born in Oswego, IL on February 8, 1939, the second of four girls born to Elizabeth and Lester Balstrode. Carol graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, WI with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1963. She met her husband of 54 years, Frederick Mattes, while attending college. Carol and Fred married on August 29, 1964.

Carol took much pleasure being a member of the “The Piecemakers” quilt club (since 1977). She also had a strong Christian faith and was an active member and leader of Grace United Methodist Church.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
