Fern Schwenk

Hastings resident Fern E. Schwenk, 96, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at Premier Estates of Kenesaw, Kenesaw, NE.

Service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene in Hastings with Pastor Debra Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene or Mary Lanning Hospice. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Fern was born February 1, 1923, in Hamlet, NE to Walter & Eunice (Hahn) Reuttimann. She graduated from Hamlet High School. Fern married Olen Schwenk on November 17, 1946, in Hamlet, NE; he preceded her in death on June 6, 1979.

Fern was a homemaker and managed the bookstore at Central Community College in Hastings. She worked at Geyerman’s and Crowley’s women’s clothing stores. Fern was a member of Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene where she was a primary Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a Cub Scout den mother and was very involved with the foster grandparent program in Hastings.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Olen Schwenk; and brother and sister-in-law, Glen & Ora Reuttimann.
