Leah McCrady

March 27, 1930 — April 10, 2019

Former Hastings resident Leah L. McCrady, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Bryan Medical Center, Lincoln, NE.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with Rev. Greg Allen-Pickett and Rev. Duane C. Queen officiating. Private burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or Crossroads Center Rescue Mission.

Leah was born on March 27, 1930, in rural Glenvil, NE to Ella (Anderson) and John Harrenstein. She attended grade school in rural Adams County and graduated from Hastings High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked for the milk association and Pittsburgh Plate Glass. On September 5, 1953, she married Don McCrady in Hastings.

They briefly lived in Fremont, NE where she worked for the telephone company, and La Junta, CO. Upon returning to Hastings she worked for Johnson Cashway Lumber Company for several decades and then for Hastings Building Company at Landmark Center for several more decades. She retired in 2008.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, served as an elder and was a member of Circle. She was a past member of Lochland Country Club, Eastern Star and served on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity.

Leah was preceded in death by husband, Don McCrady; parents; brothers, Gail Harrenstein and John Harrenstein; sisters, Della Stein and Ruth Reiner; and twin sister, Leola Lay.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda McCrady of Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law, Joyce Harrenstein of Hastings, NE and Kathy Jensen of Grand Junction, CO; many nieces and nephews; as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
